What even is meditation?

Happy November!
Fall: traditionally the season of change. Though we know that everything changes moment to moment. Yesterday, I watched the sun set and was amazed at how the colors and light shifted literally within seconds.
In those moments, I was meditating.
My first memory of meditation was watching Little Bear, one of my all-time favorite shows. In the episode, Little Bear meets a frog by a pond. We see the frog with his eyes closed, sitting atop a rock with the tips of his index and thumb fingers touching in Gyan Mudra, chanting the mantra OM.
Maybe that is how you view meditation: the body is still, the eyes are closed, hands are in Gyan Mudra, and you chant OM. That is a way to practice meditation! I love practicing meditation with a mantra. That is not the only way to meditate.
Meditation itself is not about clearing the mind. The practice of meditation is meeting yourself in the present moment. You watch your thoughts, you sense the space around you, you feel your breath, all just as you watch a movie. You observe. You are The Observer.
You can meditate as you walk. You can meditate while you read. I like to especially meditate when I brush my teeth! There is no right or wrong way to meditate, so long that you are open to whatever the present moment offers.
What happens when you consciously choose to meditate again, and again, and again, is that you become meditation. All that you experience, you observe. All that you observe, you experience.
It can be tricky. It is challenging to meet yourself where you are at when we live in a world that constantly pulls us away from the true nature of who we are: conscious, energetic beings.
If it resonates, join me in an upcoming online meditation class. Bring a curious, open mind, wear comfy clothes, and welcome in anything that helps you relax. You can sign up by clicking the link below.

If this brings up questions or thoughts, please reach out. No question is silly or wrong. Let us shed some light on what we thought we knew, like the light of the Full Moon illuminating the darkness.
It is a gift to be on Earth with you, here and now. Stay tuned for more offerings. (:
